A slight change of plans

Today was supposed to be the day of my "I-heart-Kim-Harrison" post, in which I talk about the woman herself, today's release of her new book, THE OUTLAW DEMON WAILS, and how fabulous it is, and essentially tell you all to go see her on her tour, also starting today.

And then I lost my morning's work.
As in, my computer ate it and spit it out in Sanskrit as I was saving it.
For the third time.
Needless to say, my mood plummeted from my fangirl high to this (you must click on the icon to experience the full breadth of my despair):

So I went to Sbux, got soothing chai and a sympathy slice of coffee cake which I will worry about running off later, and came home to pout, and of course, work. Leave it to my good friend Pam to make it all better with this. Note: there's a small time investment required here, and language, but all her caveats are in place on the post, and all I can add is: Pameladidah, thanks for the therapy.

Oh my dogs. I'm so sorry. Ugh. Stupid computers. Sending good thoughts for the reconstruction.

(It's happened to me. I hate having to try to recreate stuff I've lost. I have this hang-up that everything is said better the first time. I'm getting over this. Sometimes things are better said the second time after the brain has had a chance to mull it over. I hope this will be the case for you.)

Whatever you write will be better, because you are talented and smart and resolved to keep at it. The words didn't come from the computer, they came from you.

Aw, sorry to hear that. *hug* It's happened to me too when my USB filled up. Here are some good vibes coming your way. Here's something amusing to cheer you up:

Oh I know how that feels. I once edited a whole story and addited 1K to it and then snap the power went off. Guess if I have clicked save on it happened. sad part is that no matter how hard you wnat to make the PC suffer you are the one that ends up bleeding with multiple stab wounds.

Computers are evil. Sometimes I miss typewriters. Though I do enjoy the delete and backspace keys.

Isn't today the day "The Outlaw Demon Wails" comes out in HC though? Did the mass market of "For a Few Demons More" get released today, too? I was so focused on the new one I was waiting for I didn't notice. Of course my online store seems to be holding the book hostage and won't ship it to me. What's the point of pre-ordering if they don't send you the book when it's out? Grrrr!

Hang in there, Oh Goddess, you'll write an even better chunk of words this time around!!

Oh, and a note for everyone:

In your preference dialogue box in WORD there's a selection for "save." In that dialogue box, you'll find an option to set how often your computer does an auto-recovery save for your document.

In theory if the program stops responding, when you restart, the newest auto-recovery file will open.

The shortcut keys for saving are:

PCs: crtl + S.
Apples: apple + S.

(On second thought, it might be alt + S to save on a PC.)

*hugs* Vicki. What a horrible morning. Hope the rest of the day went better.

And OMG, the videos are hilarious. I was laughing so hard my husband just screeched at me for being too loud. Totally worth it though. *g*

Awww, Vicki. :( So sorry you had such a crappy morning. But Chandra's write -- it's like editing during rough draft writing! Third time's the charm! ;)

Thanks for the keyboard dude. I haven't laughed that hard in days.

I laughed so hard when I saw that picture. That describes how I feel about my computer most of the time.

You're welcome, my darling. And thank you for helping me, albeit inadvertantly, in my WHY A MACBOOK IS A NECESSITY arguments/debate with the Doug.
